For the current academic year (2021/2022) individual instrumental tuition is charged at a rate of £35 for a 40 minute lessons or £30 for a 30 minutes. During the year, boys may expect to receive about 30 lessons, normally divided as follows: 10-13 in the Christmas term, 8-10 in the Spring and 8-10 in the Summer. LAMDA lessons are charged at a rate of £19.50 for group lessons and £37 for solo lessons.
Parents will not be charged for any lessons that are cancelled due to the absence of the teacher or the fault of the school.
To stop lessons, a full term’s notice is required in writing to Jo Busson, music administrator - music@cothill.net
Lessons operate on a rotational basis around the school timetable to avoid the same academic lesson being missed every week and are organised by the music department. The length of lessons are determined by the school day and will either be 30 or 40 minutes long. The timetables are published for the boys online and in their Forms.
We all know that practice makes perfect! The boys are scheduled with three slots to practice their instrument during the week. If a boy plays more than one instrument, we are careful to spread the load. The 4s and 5s usually practise after Tea, the 6s and Ms practice in the morning before Form Time and the Removes practice in the evening after CAPS and before they head over to Bowlers.
We host an exam session at the end of each term with the ABRSM. Trinity exams are becoming more popular, especially for the Rock and Pop syllabus. The teacher's and boys decide together when they are ready to take an exam and they are entered by the Director of Music.
We try to involve the boys in as much group music as possible. Rehearsals happen in the mornings or at lunchtime. Concerts are held throughout the school year so please keep an eye on the calendar and do come and support them, if you can.
